Commissioning
of MEP Systems
(1.5 credits, pending approval)
Commissioning - the process of achieving, verifying and
documenting building system performance – is becoming
mainstream on institutional construction projects. Current
trends, including ever-increasing energy costs and building
systems complexity, underscore the need for this service
for institutional clients. Through commissioning, owners
are assured that building systems meet their functional
and operational needs by ensuring that the complex equipment
that provides heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting and
other functions throughout the building works together effectively
and efficiently. In case study format, we will review the
commissioning process that was implemented for Harvard University’s
One Western Avenue student housing project. We will discuss
the value this effort provided to the client, including
the added benefit of facilitating the turnover process.
