Integrating the LEED Rating System (1.5 credits)

In this session we address the integration of sustainable design elements with a focus on LEED certification in the building design process. We will examine the design process required to produce a U.S. Green Building Council LEED building and explain the various levels of LEED certification. We will also explore how this rating system differs from the conventional building design process. Topics will include building siting, design of the building envelope (double wall, external shading devices), energy options including renewable energy sources (i.e. photovoltaics), water efficiency, materials, IAQ, and the use of recycled materials.
