This
project entailed both base building and tenant interiors
engineering for approximately 20,000 sq ft of office
and support space. This building, which earned LEED
Gold certification, accommodates several program groups,
including a preservation laboratory for special collections.
The HVAC system for the building was designed using
a geothermal system comprised of five geothermal heat
pumps and three wells. The geothermal design was selected
because it provided another usable floor for the building,
as there are height restrictions in the neighborhood.
Having a conventional heating and cooling plant with
rooftop mechanical equipment or a cooling tower on the
roof would have reduced the building by a usable floor.
