Back to Selected Research Facility Projects

This 244,000 square foot project includes instructional laboratories, departmental research and organized research facilities for the chemistry department of the faculty of natural sciences and mathematics. An adjacent building contains approximately 45,000 square feet of general instruction classrooms and lecture halls. The chemistry building is an 8-story structure of which the first three floors contain chemistry teaching labs. The upper floors are occupied by chemistry research facilities. The laboratories within the building contain over 300 fume hoods. The fume hood exhaust control consists of a 2-position volumetric control system which exhausts a fixed air quantity from each hood on an occupied/unoccupied basis. Sash position sensors are provided within each hood. This system offers a high degree of flexibility in the relocation and addition of fume hoods within the building.
